About

Demi Elemo is a dual-qualified legal practitioner in Scotland and Nigeria, and an academic whose work spans dispute resolution, international arbitration, legal research, teaching, and professional engagement across multiple jurisdictions. 

Demi is currently a Lecturer within the Dundee Business School at Abertay University and is completing her PhD research at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, where her research examines the impact of investor-State dispute settlement on renewable energy investments in developed and developing nations. She holds an LL.M in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London.

Alongside her academic work, Demi remains actively engaged in legal practice and advisory work. Her experience spans energy and natural resources law, commercial transactions, employment law, intellectual property law, agricultural law, real estate matters, and regulatory compliance. She has gained professional experience working with the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, AELEX, Folashade Alli and Associates, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (Nigeria), the University of Dundee, and Abertay University.

Demi has been actively involved in international arbitration and dispute resolution through research, professional leadership, speaking engagements, mooting, and institutional engagement. In addition to her research in investment arbitration and renewable energy disputes, she has acted as Arbitral Tribunal Secretary and Registrar in a number of commercial disputes involving the energy, telecommunications, and finance sectors. She currently serves as Communications Chair of Young ITA (Institute for Transnational Arbitration), having previously served as Regional Chair for Africa, and has participated in numerous arbitration conferences, workshops, and professional initiatives across different jurisdictions. Her involvement in arbitration also includes mooting, advocacy training, conference participation, and collaborative work relating to innovation and emerging issues in dispute resolution. She is a member of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center's task force on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in International Arbitration.

Her broader academic and professional interests include empirical legal research, legal education, and the intersection between law, policy, and institutional development. She has a particular interest in how interdisciplinary and quantitative approaches can contribute to legal scholarship and professional practice.

Outside her professional work, Demi is actively involved in volunteering and community engagement and is particularly passionate about access to advice and support services, neurodivergence awareness, education, and community-focused initiatives. Her interests outside law and academia include fantasy fiction, history, classical music, musical theatre, board games, and gaming.
